Like any other business, selling Girl Scout cookies requires finesse, responsibility and a handy app to track your sales. What was (at least, in your author's day) a mess of paper, piles of order forms, sticky notes and bits of half-nibbled Thin Mints has been sensibly simplified to an iPhone/iPad app. The 'Cookie Tracker' doesn't exactly help those with a cookie craving get quicker access to the myriad flavors of Girl Scout treats, but it does allow savvy Scouts to enter sales data in order to ensure smooth snack delivery. By creating a profile, a Scout can see who hasn't paid, what hasn't been delivered and how her goals are being met. She can also send e-mails to her cookie devotees, thanking them for gorging themselves on Samoas. Sweet, sweet Samoas....Don't decry the Scouts for relinquishing the old-school Radio Flyers and cookie stands, because this app helps develop the skills required in real businesses: supply management, goal tracking and inventory maintenance. While the app itself is developed by a third party, and, for a short time, is $0.99, it instructs girls on ways to use programs to stay organized. Also, a nice e-mail from your neighborhood Girl Scout is always charming, especially when it means your cookies are on their way. (P.S.: The Switched staff badly needs a GS hookup. Anyone got a kid with access to desserts?)
